I’m usually completely faithful to inexpensive drugstore mascaras but I had heard so many great things about Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara that I couldn’t help but to test it out.
It has a scandalous name and some pretty hefty claims on the packaging- an hourglass shaped brush that brings 1,944% more volume and the most intense black, oversized, multidimensional lashes possible.
It is definitely a great mascara but is it really better than um… you know what?
After three coats of Better Than Sex my lashes are longer, thicker and fuller. But is it really that much better than a mascara I bought at Walgreens?
I paid $23 for this mascara at Sephora and in my opinion it is not significantly better than the drugstore mascara I usually buy for under $10.
My first impression of this product was that it was extremely clumpy. It is a volumizing mascara so I expected some clump but I prefer to have my lashes more separated. In all honesty I have grown to like it but I find myself having to use a pin or lash comb to separate my lashes each time I use it. It has to be applied very carefully.
It isn’t bad by any means but I could get a similar if not the same look from a less expensive mascara, so I do not think I would repurchase. If money was no object, maybe, but I did not see all that much of a difference in my lashes.
I had heard so many great things about this product and wanted to love it but I’m a little disappointed! The only significant difference I noticed was that it lasted longer than drugstore mascaras.
If you are someone who loves a clumped spidery look then I would suggest Better Than Sex for you. I prefer more length and separation than what I got with this mascara.
- Thicker lashes and more volume
- Spidery look
- Lasts for a long time and doesn’t flake
- Cute packaging
- Similar look to what I achieve with drugstore mascara (such as Maybelline Colossal Lash, L’Oréal Voluminous butterfly, L’Oréal Voluminous Million Lashes)
- Very clumpy, especially when you first open the package
- Not as much length as is claimed on packaging
It is a good product but doesn’t live up to the hype.
